As an actor, writer, and director, I always love working in the narrow space between comedy and drama. Projects that can create laughter in vulnerable, human moments or bring weight and truth to the silly and absurd are my absolute joy.
My parents are both jazz musicians. As a child, I actually cried when my father was deemed “King of the Vibraphone” because I wanted to be a normal kid, not a princess. And like most non-royal, normal kids, my interests changed a lot growing up. First, I aspired to be a NASA mission control specialist after seeing Apollo 13. Then, I wanted to be a meteorologist after watching Twister. And of course, I wanted to be a rich Beverly Hills teen after viewing Clueless.
Eventually, I realized that my true passion was great storytelling through film and television. So, I studied filmmaking at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (including a summer abroad at FAMU in Prague), acting at the Atlantic Theater Company’s Acting School, and improv comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
I’m proud that I’ve had the opportunity to write, direct, and act in several short films that have screened in festivals across the country and online. I’ve performed in a broad assortment of commercial work for everything from hip clothing companies, to life insurance, to hazardous material removal instructional videos. (Why yes, I did rock a hard hat and safety vest. Thanks for asking.)
A feature film screenplay of mine, which lives in the comedy-drama space I love, Scattering Jake, was named a quarterfinalist in the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting.
When I’m not doing the whole “being creative” thing, you can probably find me running (my favorite routes include the bridges of New York City, especially the Williamsburg Bridge), taking Bar Method classes, or cooking with ingredients from my CSA. (Let’s talk about sustainable agriculture!)
Watch out this winter for my web series, Life, After, which I’ve created with my incredibly funny writing partner, Corinne Caputo.
Let’s collaborate! (Or discuss sustainable agriculture. Seriously, I’m down. That was a real offer.)
